Competitors have 72 hours to write, shoot, edit, and submit a 5 minute short film based on a Contest theme announced promptly at 8:00PM EDT / 5:00PM PDT, Friday July 15th, 2011 at a launch party in New York City and the 72 Hour Website.

All Teams must register online before 12:00 AM July 15th to compete and send in a $45 entry fee
All Entries must include in their film the following caption:
“This film was made possible in part by the support of the 2011 72 Hour Film Shootout presented by the Asian American Film Lab”
One lead actor AND one key production member must be of Asian descent.
- A key production member is a director, producer, writer, director of photography, or editor. A lead actor is one who plays a character that drives the storyline. However, one person of Asian descent can fulfill both requirements (for example, an Asian actress who also directs with the rest of the cast/crew being non-Asian).
Team Film, including credits, must not exceed 5 minutes in duration.
Any type of video or film or digital camera may be used.
All creative work for the Team Film, including but not limited to the following, must take place within the 72 hour period beginning at 8:00 PM EDT / 5:00 PM PDT, Friday, July 15th, 2011 and Monday July 18th, 2011 8:00 PDM EDT/5:00PM PDT (Competition Time Period):
- Writing the script, Rehearsing, Costume/Set Design, Shooting, Editing, and Sound Design. Only the following work can begin prior to the Competition Time Period: Organizing Crew, Organizing Cast, Securing Equipment, Scouting/Securing Locations. All footage for the Team Film must be shot within the Competition Time Period.
- In addition to the required Competition agreements, each Team is responsible for securing talent, location and all necessary releases for completion of their respective film.
On or before Monday, July 18th, 2011, all teams must send copies of their film with the Submissions Form.
- mailed packets should arrive in our offices in New York by 12pm noon (EDT) on Tuesday, July 19th, 2011, for consideration in the judging process.
- e-mailed/uploaded links should arrive by the end of the 72 Hour Competition period, 8PM (EDT) Monday, July 18th, 2011.
You can send us your short, via FedEX, UPS, US Postal System mail or online! Please send one (and only 1) entry (whether it be snail mail, YouTube, etc.)
Delivery Option 1:
Team Leaders can e-mail info@aafilmlab.com the unlisted YouTube URL & signed Submissions Form. If you don’t have access to a scanner, or your team can’t sign the documents by hand, Team Leaders should copy and paste all the information, including team members info and team leader affirmation, into the body of the e-mail. In the subject line enter: 72 Hour Film Shootout Entry - Your Team Name. Make sure it’s unlisted! We don’t want to spoil the surprise!

Upload your film via YouSendIt or WeTransfer.com
In the subject line include: 72 Hour Film Shootout Entry - Your Team Name, your complete, signed Submission Form and your completed short in the H.264 format specified above.
Delivery Option 3:
mail overnight your Submission Documents and completed short within the Competition Time Period to: 72 Hour Film Shootout, c/o Asian American Arts Alliance, 20 Jay Street, Suite 740, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Your delivery must arrive in the morning by 12:00 P.M. (EDT) Tuesday July 19th.
